Stage 5 - Some additional ideas for using Digital Cameras

The school should have a policy about taking and using photos of children. Make sure you have read and understood this policy before you start using a camera in the classroom.

Just taking pictures

Sequencing photographs of every day activities such as making a cup of tea.

Local Studies - take pictures and print them out as postcards or send as electronic cards to a "partner" school when doing "Contrasting locality"

"The Time Machine" - Make a long term study of an area by taking photographs from the same spot every year.

Take photographs of pupils' work as evidence

Take a sequence of pictures of something growing - Frogs, Plants etc.

In Reception use photographs of the children for pegs, lunch boxes and draws

Take photos of pupils to sell to parents as a fund raising activity.

Use photographs to make personalise badges and key rings

Take close up photos of everyday objects from unusual angles - can you guess what it is?

Make a version of the "Guess Who?" game using pictures of class members as an introduction to questioning skills and data handling.

Make "Picture Snap" cards

 

 
Using pictures with text in a word processor

Make a Passport or class ID card.

Keep a photographic weather diary for a week.

Book covers - make a realistic book cover by adding the Authors photo.

Make a class "Wall of fame". A good activity of year 7 to introduce the pupils to each other.

Use a photo as a watermark on school note paper

Thought for the day pictures

Make adverts for the school's Tuck Shop or an event at school.

Caption competition

Make a pack of "The School's Most Wanted" cards.

Photo stories

Create help guides - showing how to connect a printer to a laptop.

 
Using Cut and Paste to combine pictures

Join the stars - cut and paste pictures together to make it look as if you have had your picture taken with a personality.

Put pupils into historic pictures by scanning paintings then cutting and pasting a pupils face onto the painting - see "Putting Pupils in the Picture".

 

Using photos in other programs

Using real pictures in Clicker

Enhancing Photos in an Art Package

Create Victorian pictures by making use of "Sepia" tints.

Take a series of photographs and make a "Virtual tour" or "photo map" in PowerPoint or Clicker (similar to "Virtual Bury").

Make a class or school calendar in a program like Publisher.

Make slide shows of photos in PowerPoint or Clicker.
