Use RM email

How to Log On to a user account in RM EasyMail Plus

Requirements

You can use RM EasyMail Plus from any computer that has access to the Internet and a suitable web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer 3/Netscape 3 or above).

You access RM EasyMail Plus from within your browser in exactly the same way that you would access any web site.

After you have logged in, all you have to do to use RM EasyMail Plus is to click on the buttons or icons to move to the appropriate window to carry out your task. Then enter the information as requested, and finally click on other icons or buttons to carry out your instructions.

Procedure

Logging In

" Start your web browser.
" Type your school's RM EasyMail Plus domain name in the 'Address' box. This should be in the format http://mail.[domainname] (e.g http://mail.allsaints.bury.sch.uk) and click Go. The RM EasyMail Plus login window appears.
" Enter your User name, then your Password (Note that your password appears as a row of asterisks - one for each character you type.)
" Pupil Passwords are the same as the Username.
" Staff Passwords are detailed on your User lists.

" Click the Log In button. If you have logged in successfully, the 'New Mail' folder appears. You can now begin to use RM EasyMail Plus.

If you have not managed to log in successfully, you will be informed by the message, 'Log In Failed'. Try logging in again. However, if this still fails, you may need to check the User name and Password details with your network manager.

Logging Out

If at any time you wish to end your RM EasyMail Plus session, click the Close button until you reach the New Mail window, then click the 'Log Out' link.

Possible Issues

I cannot access the logon page
If you are unable to reach the RM EasyMail Plus login page, perform the following tasks:

1. Double check the address you have entered into the Address bar of your web browser - it should be of the form "http://mail.school.county.sch.uk". For details specific to your school, ask your Network Administrator.
2. Check your basic Internet connection by browsing to http://www.bbc.co.uk. If you cannot access this website, speak to your network administrator or contact your network support services.
3. If no-one can reach the logon page, contact your RM Support team.

I can logon successfully but then get sent back to the login page
RM EasyMail Plus includes a security feature that checks the IP address (Internet address) of the machine used by each user.

The EasyMail Plus servers record the IP address when the user logs in. Then, for the duration of the users session, it will permit access from this one machine only. If the server records a different machine's IP address, it will automatically take the user back to the login page to begin a new session.

This can cause a problem when Internet connection is made via an Internet Service Provider's (ISP's) proxy service. When this is the case, the recorded IP address will belong to the ISP's proxy server. If during a user's Easymail Plus session, the connection switches to use a different proxy server (there will be many at each ISP), RM EasyMail Plus will notice and bounce the user back to the login page.

Customers that use RM Internet for Learning (IFL) as their ISP should not experience the symptoms described - IFL's network will prohibit connections from switching between proxy servers during an RM EasyMail Plus session. The problem can still occur, however, if a proxy server is used on a site's Local Area Network (LAN) - regardless of the ISP.

If you find that you are being sent back to the login page, then complete the following test and report the results to your RM Support Team.

Browse to your user login page as normal. Here you will notice an RM EasyMail Plus icon towards to the top right hand corner of the screen. The character is on a paper airplane (Easymail highflyer) or is in a circle (On a roll with Easymail).

Now refresh the page either by the clicking the Refresh button on your browser or pressing CTRL & F5 together (on Internet Explorer). Does the colour change? Refresh the page another 15 to 20 times and note whether the icon colour changes at any time.

Once you have completed the above, go to the address bar of your browser and enter http://www.easymailplustest.com. This site does not actually exist and you will receive an error message. At the very bottom of the message, you should see the date and time. The same line should include details of the specific proxy server you are using. If your Internet connection is through IFL, the name will be similar to webcache-01.th.ifl.net. Note the full name and provide this to your RM Support Team when raising a call.

Can more than one user login to the same account?
Although it is possible for multiple users to log in and use one account they may experience issues e.g. getting sent back to the login screen once logged in. We therefore recommend that each user of Easymail Plus has their own individual account.
