

Shools publishing Web Pages on the Bury LEA server must conform to the following:
· The materials within web pages published on the LEA's server must not bring the School or the LEA into disrepute.
· Responsibility for the content hosted lies with the school.
o All materials must be accountable i.e. pages must carry the name of their author and a way that the author can be contacted.
o Material should be accurate.
o Documents published as web pages must follow the policies, procedures and disciplines of any other documents produced by the school.
o Schools must only use images, sounds etc that they hold the copyright for, or that they know to be free from copyright or have the written permission of the copyright holder.
o The site must be effectively and regularly monitored.
o Pages should carry the date they were first published and the date when they were last up dated.
· Schools must not use their web pages to decry or in any other way denigrate the LEA or other schools.
· Schools wishing to publish sites on the LEA server must have a current publishing policy that has been approved by the governing body; a copy of which has been approved by an officer of the LEA appointed by the Chief Education Officer.
· Pictures that identify children
o Should not be used without the express written permission of the child's parent or legal guardian.
o Where pictures of children are used the child / children should not normally be identified by name.
o Where pictures of children are used they must be suitably dressed
· If the school's site links to a web page outside the site the links from that web page must be thoroughly investigated for sub-links to inappropriate material. (If a link is to be made to a page then all the links from that page must be visited to see that they do not take the user to an inappropriate site). Sub-links must be inspected regularly for changes.
· The school must not use their website for money making purposes.o Schools must not sub-let areas of the server - schools may not offer to host a page or pages for another organisation e.g. Scout troop. (External organisations may rent space on the server from the LEA if they wish.)
o School pages must not carry advertisements for anything other than school events.
· The home page of the Schools website must have a return link to a specified page on the LEA's web site.· Schools must make adequate provision to protect the LEA's server from virus infection. The machine/s used for authoring must have up to date virus protection software. Any files from external sources must be scanned before uploading.
· Schools should make sure that whoever has access to the publishing process stays within the area allocated to the school and does not attempt to interfere with other areas of the LEA's server.
The LEA reserves the right to remove any site from its server that is found
to contravene the above criteria.
