Governors
Who do the Governors represent?
In short, the school. However, governors are drawn from the various groups that have an interest in the successful running of the school; parents, teachers, other staff, the Local Authority (LA) and the wider community.
What is the role of school governors?
School governors make collective decisions and their primary function is to help raise the educational standards and performance of a school by supporting the work of the headteacher and staff. Governors make important decisions on how a school will be run. The governing body is answerable to parents and the wider community.
Some of the things expected of governors include:
Promoting high standards of achievement;
Planning the school's long-term future;
Setting the school's aims, values and ethos;
Budgetary allocation and control and appointing senior staff.
What kind of training do governors recieve?
An effective Governing Body and Governors are vital in ensuring the continued success of the school and in maintaining the high standards. The LA provides appropriate training for new and existing Governors and members of the Governing body regularly attend appropriate training courses to ensure that they are well equipped for the role and hold accurate and up to date information to support them.
Governors Forum
The Governing Body is affiliated to the Bury Governors Forum. This forum aims to support Governors in their role by raising awareness of key issues; providing up-to-date information; lobbying the local authority and national bodies on behalf of schools and providing an environment for informed discussion and debate. The Governors Forum meets once a term at the Town Hall.
