Monday 16th November
This morning 30 of our Y6 children, accompanied by Mrs Eccles, Miss Kelly & Mrs Wallace walked down to Radcliffe Library for a very special meeting with an ex-St. Mary's pupil. We had been invited to a question & answer session with Oscar winning director Danny Boyle. The children had been selected by drawing names as we were limited to 30 children and those who had been lucky were very excited. A brisk walk through Radcliffe saw us arrive at the Library in good time and as soon as we were settled, in he came.
He was dressed very casually and seemed relaxed. Danny started the session by telling us a little about himself, how he had grown up in Radcliffe and that his dad still lives here. He told us that he had attended St Mary's himself as a child and that he had gone on to Thornleigh High School.
Danny told us that he had been an avid reader as a boy and that his love of books today was as great as ever. He is a super advocate for being a 'lover of reading'.
After this, he took questions from the children and gave very detailed answers, serious but with some humour thrown in. He made the children feel that if they work hard, then they too can achieve their dreams. To finish, Danny signed autographs and had photographs taken with the children.
Thanks Danny for inspiring the children!
