Literacy
Our latest literacy topic is Alfred Noyes brilliant Highwayman. It is an excellent narrative poem set between the 1600 - 1800 about a romantic highwayman who falls in love with Bess the landlords daughter.
We will be looking at the super language features and how the Alfred Noyes uses language to describe what is happening. There are some brilliant metaphors throughout this poem.
We have done some freeze framing and hot seating pretending to be characters from the book.
Highwaymen were dangerous men who waited at the side of the road for wealthy travellers to pass by. They would stop the travellers and demand they paid them money and hand over their belongings often using the line 'stand and deliver'. This meant that highwaymen were usually wealthy, well dressed and rode horses. The most famous highwayman was probably Dick Turpin who lived from 1706.
The Piano
We are currently working on a short film called 'The Piano' by Aidan Gibbons. We have been talking about the characters feelings and will be planning and making our own short films with flashbacks.
You can watch the video here!

We have also worked on Roald Dahl's BFG. Roald Dahl is one of Britain's best known authors and famous for his excellent description and style of writing.

Roald Dahl (1916 - 1990)
We have made dream jars and written our own dreams in the style of the BFG.
