Science
Our latest science topic is Earth, sun and moon. We are learning all about the solar system and facts about the planets. We will also learn about why we have night and day, months and years and how the Earth sun and moon make this happen.
This great website lets you look at different planets and compare them to Earth and others.
The sun is a star(yellow dwarf). It is a giant ball of gas
which gives us light and warmth. It is the centre of our galaxy
(The Milkyway).
Earth is our planet and the only one with known life in our galaxy.
It orbits the sun in 365.25 days.
The moon is a satalite. Its about one sixth the size of Earth. It orbits Earth in about 28 days and reflects light from the sun.
In our science this half term we will be learning about changing sounds. We will be learning about how sounds are made, how they travel and we will be carrying out investigations with string telephones and insulating sounds.
Some of the key vocabulary.

How do you change the pitch and volume on your guitar?

We have learned about many different gases and have been carrying out experiments. How many gases can you name?
Gases and some of their uses
Oxygen is needed for life

Helium balloons. Air 20% oxygen Nitrous Oxide can be used in
Helium is lighter than air. 78% Nitrogen cars for extra speed.

Natural gas from underground Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) is also
used for cooking. used as an anesthetic by doctors and dentists.
It makes the patient go to sleep so they
can't feel anything during operations.
What else do you know about gases?
