www.phonicsplay.co.uk : go to phase 2 section or extend to phase 3 if confident with blending phase 2 phonemes. Children are mainly familiar with the game ‘buried treasure’ so may need some supervision on any other games until they are confident.

Suggested Games:

Writing High Frequency and Tricky Words in paint, chalk, on pavements with water and a paintbrush, gel pens, special paper etc.

‘Quickwrite’ – write a word child needs to practice reading/writing on a piece of paper – show it them briefly then ask them to tell you/re-write the word on their own paper (whiteboards and pens make this game much more fun and enables the learner to rub out and correct their work easily!).

Snap/Pairs using High Frequency and Tricky Words

I Spy using any beginning phoneme – extend by challenging the learner to write their guess down.
