Welcome to Year Four

Our teachers in Year Four are Mrs Brown and Miss McCombe

supported by Miss Hawkins, Mrs Hamblet, Mrs Moynihan.

Mrs Nelson covers PPA time in 4M on Thursday morning and 4B on a Thursday afternoon.

Year 4 have been chosen to take part in 'Radcliffe in Bloom'

which aims to make Radcliffe more attractive and enjoyable for it's many residents.

The children have been asked to design a flower bed and the winning entry will be placed in the centre of Radcliffe!!

Can these entries please be in school by Monday 10th as they need to be sent off on Tuesday?

Good luck and have fun being creative!

There is an opportunity for the children's reading

books to be changed daily in order to encourage

their enjoyment of reading. Moreover the more

books children read the more they will improve their

 reading skills!!!

As soon as they have finished their reading book

their reading record should be signed by whoever

listened to them read and brought back into school.

As your child becomes a more independent reader it

might be suitable for them to read the reading book

by themselves. If so you could ask some questions

to ensure they understood the text or they could tell

you what happened in the book. In these cases you

still need to sign the reading record please.

All books should be changed at least once a week.

4M

Homework is an essential part of children's learning

as it reinforces new and old skills that the children

have been developing in class. All homework needs

to be completed and handed in on time. A parent or

guardian should sign and date the homework too.

Reading: Tuesday & Thursday on these nights the

children are expected to read their reading books.

You could help their understanding of the text by

asking them questions about the plot or the

 characters, for example.

Literacy: Literacy-this will be based on what we

have been covering in class or the children may be

asked to think of some ideas for a creative writing

lesson. They will then be expected to share their

 ideas in class.

Numeracy: The children are working on their

numeracy target of times tables. All children should

be learning these for an assessment the following

week. In addition, follow ups from lessons maybe

sent home to reinforce key skills. This should be

handed in the following day. Also...watch out for Mr

 Heaton's Numeracy challenges!!!

Topic: Children will be asked to research an aspect

of their topic on Friday and is due in on Monday.

Homework should not include printed sheets off the

internet. Any information should be read and put

into the children's own words and format.

4B

Homework is an essential part of children's learning

as it reinforces new and old skills that the children

have been developing in class. All homework needs

to be completed and handed in on time, however we

understand that sometimes it is not possible to

complete a piece of work on the night it is given. Just

let the teacher know when there is a problem and

ensure the work is completed as soon as possible.

Monday- Numeracy homework is given on a

Monday night. Usually the task reinforces an area we

have been covering recently in class but sometimes

will be a worksheet covering key mental arithmetic

skills. Learning Times Tables are a key learning target

in Year 4 at the moment and the children should all

know which tables they can be learning at home.

Also ...watch out for Mr Heaton's Numeracy

 Challenges!!

Tuesday and Thursday- on these nights the

children are expected to read their reading books.

You could help their understanding of the text by

asking them questions about the plot or the

 characters, for example.

Wednesday- Literacy-this will be based on what we

have been covering in class or the children may be

asked to think of some ideas for a creative writing

lesson. They will then be expected to share their

 ideas in class.

Friday-Topic-Children will be asked to research an

aspect of their topic on Friday and is due in on

Monday. If it is essential to print sheets from the

internet please ensure that the children have

highlighted key information and are able to discuss

 their research.

P.E is on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon however,

it is essential that P.E kits are in school all week as

we occasionally have extra lessons such as football

 with Radcliffe Borough.

The swimming programme for Year 4 is an intensive

4 week course that is held from the 16th November

to the 11th December. The children require sensible

swim wear and a towel. The programme is not

optional and all children are required to

participate as it is part of their P.E curriculum.

Our awards assembly is held on Monday mornings

at 9am. It would be great to see you there so

please come along and celebrate the children's

 achievements with us.
