Year Five Topics

Congratulations to all the Year 5 children who have made fantastic models over half term. We had great fun looking at them. Well done!

(pictures to come soon)

Our year 5 topic for this term is 'Britain Since 1948'

We are learning about some of the changes which have taken place in Britain over the past 60 years. We are focussing on changes in technology, fashion and popular culture, whilst looking at some of the events and people that have affected the lives of people living in Britain.

In 1969 Neil Armstrong was the first man to land on the moon. This was major news and caused great excitement across Britain. Toy manufacturers began to make toys like rockets and spaceships aswell as giving other less fun toys space names to make them sound exciting.

Also in the 1960's 'Beatlemania' hit Britain. Fans went crazy as 'The Fab Four' played to screaming audiences. The Beatles are still influencial in todays music.

Concorde was invented in the 1970's and was able to carry people in luxury to places such as New York faster than the speed of sound (supersonic). It was the fastest comercial plane ever and cut journey times for it's passengers. This was a great technological advance.

Toys have changed a lot over the years and the 1980's saw the start of video games in a very basic form. This is a picture of a Rubik's cube which was iconic in the 80's as people tried to master it.

These are just a few of the things we will be learning about any extra information, pictures or items you can find would be great to help us as we learn about the changes during these recent times.
