Year 4 Topics
Our topics combine the traditional subject areas of:
History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology and Music. We incorporate
Literacy, Science, P.E and ICT into each topic wherever possible however they do
sometimes have to be taught as separate subjects in order to ensure
full coverage.
Numeracy and Religion are taught as separate subjects to
ensure coverage of each subject.
Talking Tudors Autumn 1 |
During this exciting history topic the children will be exploring all aspects of Tudor life from Tudor dancing in P.E to Tudor food in D&T. They learn about the historical events from The Battle of Bosworth to Elizabeth's I reign uncovering the gory details of the Tudor Monarchs.

India Autumn 2
|
During this geography topic the children will be exploring the country, cultures and religions of India. They will be involved in hands on activities which permit tactile learning to take place such as making a curry, Indian dancing/sports and role play. Throughout the topic they will also learn key map skills as well as identify the 7 continents of the world. Finally the children will make comparisons between their lifestyles and the lifestyles of children growing up in India. |
Vikings & Settlements Spring 1 & 2 |
During this history topic the children will be studying the life and cultures of Vikings including viking religion and travel explorations. There will be ample opportunities for creative learning through D&T, drama and art. As the Vikings eventually stopped raiding countries and began to settle in countries the topic progresses into looking at features of settlements and why people choose to settle in a specific place. This geography topic focuses on the settlement of Radcliffe. The children will develop key map and atlas reading skills as well as ICT skills. |
Mini-beasts Summer 1

This science topic provides a range of opportunities for the children to explore the life of minibeasts through observtions, investigations and research opportunities. They will develop cooperation skills as they will often be required to work in pairs or small groups. This cross-curicular topic will provide lots of exciting experiences for the children through a creative environment.

Keen to be Green Summer 2
|
This envirnomental topic highlights the importance of caring for and looking after our world. Throughout the topic the children will explore environmental issues and preventaive measures that can be put into place to help improve green issues. They will become aware of the roles that they can play in helping improve the environment around them for animals and each other. This topic encourages them to become responsible citizens. |
